Astronomers uncover first Kilonova progenitor system using the SMARTS Telescope

Astronomers using the SMARTS 1.5-meter Telescope at a Chilean Observatory, have uncovered the first example of a rare type of binary star system, one that could eventually trigger a kilonova - the powerful explosion created by colliding stars.
