The Feldman Ecopark employees had stayed behind to take care of the animals.

The park announced that its two employees were confirmed dead by the Ukrainian military after they could not be found upon return to the zoo in the Kharkiv Oblast. It's believed the two were shot dead using guns that were hidden in the toilets.
