Thousands of jackdaws perform sudden and fast mass departure lasting seconds

Researchers analysed audio and video of six jackdaw roosts in Cornwall. They found intensity of calls increased just before the birds took off en masse. When calls weren't synchronised, birds only took off in small groups.
