Figures find smart motorways system is prone to shut down unexpectedly

Figures have found that the system used on smart motorways to detect stopped vehicles and control the overhead signs has shut down unexpectedly more than 20 times in 2023. According to the staff in the control rooms, 'they are flying blind'.
