Chicago man who stayed awake for kidney transplant says he couldn't feel a thing

A 28-year-old Chicago man received Northwestern Medicine's first kidney transplant surgery where the patient was awake. John Nicholas, the recipient of the procedure, used a friend's kidney and was discharged the very next day.
