Swastika toothbrush  uncovered in Ieper mud | VRT NWS: news

A toothbrush thought to belong to a pilot and dating from the First World War featuring a swastika has been recovered from a site in Zillebeke (Ieper). The swastika, a symbol popularised in Europe by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party, was carved into this remarkable find. But finder Tony Verschoore, a collector of Great War artefacts, believes the toothbrush was probably the property of an Indian or British soldier as the swastika is also an ancient Hindu symbol.
