Russia’s Leonid Kogan was the first winner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. The violinist won the competition in 1951 and a rather crackly recording of his version of Paganini still exists in the VRT Archive. In recent days sound technician Alan De Feyter has been at work to clean up the recording and bring it into the digital age.
