Sammy Mahdi is is the new leader of the Flemish Christian Democrat Party CD&V. The result of the party’s leadership election in which Mr Mahdi was the only candidate was announced at CD&V’s Family Day at the Plopsaland theme park in the West Flemish coastal resort of De Panne. Mr Mahdi gained the support of 97% of party members that voted in the leadership election.
