The city authorities in the French capital Paris have awarded Flemish landscape architect Bas Smets the contract for the refurbishment of the public open space that surrounds Notre-Dame Cathedral. Earlier on Monday, the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo (socialist) announced that the contract for the refurbishment of the square in front of the cathedral, the gardens that surround it and parts of the surrounding streets will go to Bas Smets' bureau.
