The Federal Ombudsman responsible for the national airport at Zaventem in Flemish Brabant Philippe Touwaide had said in a newspaper interview that a low-emission zone should be in force at the airport. Mr Touwaide told the daily ‘De Morgen’ that a low-emission zone would ensure that the dirtiest and most noisy planes would be banned from the airport. Low-emissions zones are already in force in cities such as Brussels in order to reduce pollution from cars and other motor vehicles there.
