Belgium’s federal government has struck a new deal on the modernisation of the Belgian penal code. The new penal code contains several new crimes including ecocide. This is the act of inflicting serious and large-scale damage on the environment. A conviction for ecocide could land you in jail for between 10 and 20 years.
