Starting 23 November an asbestos certificate will be required if you wish to sell a property in Flanders. The measure is being introduced to provide greater information about the presence of asbestos. The material was used in all kinds of building materials till 2001, but as a carcinogenic (causing cancer) poses a major threat to health. By 2040 Flanders should be made asbestos safe.
