Israel’s controversial new death penalty law explained

Israel has passed a law permitting the death penalty as punishment for those convicted of deadly terrorism. Far-right politicians in the Knesset - the Israeli parliament - succeeded in passing the law, which they say is needed to stop Palestinians from carrying out deadly attacks or kidnapping Israelis to use in swap deals.
